Usui Reiki can include elements from a number of Reiki Styles. Every Reiki Practitioner can trace back his lineage of teachers to Dr. Mikao Usui, who developed this spiritual healing system over a hundred years ago. There are different styles of teaching, depending on which teachers passed on these original teachings. Until I left Bangladesh, my first Reiki Master was Priya Sethi, an Independent Reiki Master originally from India, who was trained via Hawayo Takata and Paula Horan in Western Reiki. She taught me up to Reiki Master/Healer Level and still mentors me today. My second Reiki Master, Richard Jones, trained in Eastern Reiki and in Western Reiki (Usui Shiki Ryoho), taught me at Reiki Master/Teacher Level and also mentors me today.
Usui Shiki Ryoho means the Usui System of Natural Healing, which was passed on through Usui’s students Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the West. These teachings are referred to as Western Reiki.
Usui Reiki Ryoho means the Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method as taught by Usui and passed on through Usui’s students Kani’ichi Taketomi and Imiko Koyama and Doi Hiroshi. This is also called Japanese Reiki. Original Usui Reiki Refers to Reiki taught by Usui and passed on through Suzuki San, Chris Marsh and Taggart King. All these teachings are referred to as Eastern Reiki.
